An attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump occurred at his golf course in Florida. The FBI, which is investigating the incident, reported that a person with a weapon was seen. Secret Service agents opened fire upon seeing the suspect. The suspect tried to flee in an SUV but was intercepted by a highway patrol. A few hours after the incident, FBI, Secret Service, and local police representatives revealed that a discarded Kalashnikov rifle was found in the bushes near the golf course. The name of the arrested individual has not been disclosed, but it was reported that the man is 58 years old.
The incident in Florida was not the first during the presidential campaign. On July 13, Trump was shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania. One person died, and several were injured, including Trump, who was grazed by a bullet.
The White House was immediately informed about the Florida incident. “I am relieved that the former president was not harmed,” — wrote President Joe Biden on social media.
Biden exited the presidential race in July, ceding the position to Vice President Kamala Harris. “I am glad that Trump is safe,” — said Harris, who became the Democratic presidential candidate. She added that there is no place for violence in America.
Donald Trump thanked the Secret Service, the sheriff of Palm Beach County, and law enforcement agencies for their “incredible work in ensuring his safety.”
